Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Degrazia's gallery in the sun

Thursday, March 12, 2015 (9:00 Am - 3:00 pm)
Registration fee: $150 (includes lunch)

This tour is a rain or shine event; it is an outdoor experience that requires walking.

On your way to the museum, you will weave through Saguaro National Park, the most magnificent Saguaro forest in the world. The great Sonoran Desert region is filled with natural beauty and mystery and this outing provides a unique opportunity to see its comprehensive collection of plants, animals, and geology.

The New York Times refers to it as “the most magnificent Saguaro forest in the world” and it is Southern Arizona’s most popular visitor attraction. A “living” museum nestled in Tucson Mountain Park 14 miles west of downtown Tucson, the Desert Museum exhibits the world of nature from fauna to live animals found in the Sonoran Desert region. The Desert Museum differs from a traditional museum in that 85% of its content is outdoors and alive. It is an all-encompassing interpretive center showcasing the Sonoran Desert region, widely recognized as the lushest desert on Earth. The Museum is a fusion experience: zoo, botanical garden, aquarium, natural history museum, and art gallery. It includes 21 interpreted acres with 2 miles of walking paths, 230 animal species, 8 garden areas with 1,200 types of plants, a comprehensive regional mineral collection, and three different live animal presentations. (Lunch at Desert Museum.)

Following the Desert Museum, we will visit a Tucson landmark, De Grazia’s Gallery in the Sun, which welcomes thousands of visitors each year. Renowned Arizona master, Ted De Grazia designed this gallery to house his works and the gallery now displays his art, adobe construction, and beautiful decorative features. It’s a uniquely southwest place to explore, browse or shop.
