What is the environmental footprint of wood packaging? What drives your customers’ purchasing decisions regarding pallets? Over the years, NWPCA and the Pallet Foundation have researched and gathered many tools to inform your customers as they make these important decisions.

About Rick Bergman, Phd

Rick Bergman, US Forest Products Lab, is lead researcher for the life cycle assessment survey/environmental project declaration for the wood packaging industry. His major research objectives include: 1) developing life-cycle assessment (LCA) data and conducting comparative LCAs for wood products and bioenergy systems and 2) investigating the time value of carbon within harvested wood products related to forest practices and final disposition of wood products. Rick has a Bachelor’s in ChE and Master’s and PhD in Forestry from University of Wisconsin-Madison. Rick also participates in green building standard and product category rule development.


Brad Gething, PhD, is NWPCA's Director of Science & Technology Integration. He serves as point of contact for the Pallet Design System (PDS) design support and education. He also participates in various standards bodies, promotion of research and development, and support on other technical and regulatory issues to the wood packaging industry. Prior to joining NWPCA staff in 2013, Brad worked at Penn State University as a post-doctoral scholar, researching issues relation to the phytosanitation of wood packaging and ISPM-15.

ABOUT Brent McClendon, CAE

Brent has been the President / CEO of the National Wooden Pallet & Container Association (NWPCA) since 2013. During his time with NWPCA the association has doubled to a $4 million, 14 staff organization, and now maintains two principle locations, one in Alexandria, Virginia for advocacy and traditional association practices, and a separate engineering department with four engineers in Blacksburg, Virginia. Brent came to NWPCA from a similar executive role for nine years with the International Wood Products Association. His resume includes significant for-profit executive international sales management for a $35 million forest products company, along with additional time serving as Washington lobbyist and public affairs director for groups including the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association and Hardwood Plywood Veneer Association.

About Glenn Meeks

Glenn Meeks is the founder and principal of Woodview Media LLC, a digital marketing agency committed to guiding companies within the forest and wood products sector in developing an online presence and growing their business. Glenn has been working in the supply chain and logistics sector for 20 years. The last 7 of those years have been dedicated to the wooden pallet and container industry. He has been involved in digital marketing since the days of America Online and dial up connections, and his experience and willingness to help with digital strategy has put him in the center of pallet industry initiatives like Nature’s Packaging.
